邹谦之尝语德洪曰：「舒国裳曾持一张纸，请先生写『拱把之恫梓』一章。先生悬笔为书，到『至于身而不知所以养之者』，顾而笑曰：『国裳读书，中过状元来，岂诚不知身之所以当养？还须诵此以求警？』一时在侍诸友皆惕然。」

Zou Qianzhi once told Dehong: 'Shu Guoshang brought a sheet of paper asking the Master to write out the chapter on the fist-thick paulownia and catalpa. The Master, brush suspended, wrote to the line till it comes to the self, yet he knows not how to nurture it, then turned with a smile: Guoshang, a graduate at the head of the list — can he truly not know the self must be nurtured, that he must recite this for warning? All the friends in attendance started to attention.'
