Asked: 'Confucius said Hui is no help to me — did the sage truly look to his disciples for help?'
The Master said: 'It was the plain truth. The Way is past exhausting; the more the questioning, the finer it shows. The sage's words are whole of themselves; but when one questions with a blocked breast, the sage, pressed, unfolds them all the more brightly. Yan Hui, hearing one, knew ten, all clear within — what room for questioning? So with him the sage rested still, nothing to unfold: hence no help.'
