「圣人之知，如青天之日；贤人如浮云天日；愚人如阴霾天日。虽有昏明不同，其能辨黑白则一。虽昏黑夜里，亦影影见得黑白，就是日之余光未尽处。困学功夫，亦只从这点明处精察去耳。」
「圣人的知，如同晴天的太阳；贤人如浮云蔽日；愚人如阴霾蔽日。虽有昏明的不同，能分辨黑白则是一样的。虽在昏黑的夜里，也影影绰绰见得黑白，那是太阳的余光未尽处。困学的功夫，也只是从这一点明亮处精察去罢了。」
'The sage's knowing is the sun in a clear sky; the worthy's, the sun behind drifting clouds; the dull man's, the sun in haze. Dim or bright, the telling of black from white is one. Even in dark night black and white are shadowily seen — the sun's last light not yet spent. The work of hard-learned learning too starts only from that point of light, examining finely onward.'
