凡习礼须要澄心肃虑，审其仪节，度其容止，毋忽而惰，毋沮而怍，毋径而野，从容而不失之迂缓，修谨而不矢之拘局。久则礼貌习熟，德性坚定矣。童生班次皆如歌诗，每间一日，则轮一班习礼，其余皆就席敛容肃观。习礼之日，免其课仿。每十日则总四班递习于本学。每朔望，则集各学会习于书院。

In practicing ritual, one must settle the mind and grave the thoughts, examining the ceremonies, weighing the bearing — neither careless nor slack, neither dashed nor abashed, neither blunt nor rough; composed without tardiness, exact without stiffness; in time the manner becomes practiced and the moral nature firm. The sections are as for singing. Every other day one section practices ritual while the rest sit composed and watch; on ritual days the copybooks are excused. Every tenth day the four sections practice in turn at the school; on the first and fifteenth, all schools gather to practice at the academy.
