每日清晨，诸生参揖毕，教读以次，偏询诸生，在家所以爱亲敬畏之心，得无懈忽未能真切否？温凊定省之仪，得无亏缺未能实践否？往来街衢步趋礼节，得无放荡未能谨饬否？一应言行心术，得无欺妄非僻未能忠信笃敬否？诸童子务要各以实对，有则改之，无则加勉。教读复随时就事，曲加诲谕开发，然后各退就席肄业。
每天清晨，学生参拜作揖完毕，教读依次普遍询问诸生：在家爱亲敬畏之心，有没有懈怠疏忽而不能真切？温凊定省之仪，有没有亏缺而未能实践？往来街衢的步趋礼节，有没有放荡而未能谨饬？一切言行心术，有没有欺妄邪僻而未能忠信笃敬？诸童子务要各自据实回答，有则改之，无则加勉。教读再随时就事，婉转加以诲谕启发，然后各自退回座位研习功课。
Each morning, when the students have bowed, the teacher in turn asks them all: at home, the heart of loving and reverencing parents — has it slackened, fallen short of true earnest? The offices of warming, cooling, settling and inquiring — any gap, any failure in practice? The courtesies of walking the streets — any wildness, any lapse of decorum? All words, deeds and thoughts of the heart — any deceit or perversity short of loyalty, faith and earnest respect? Each child must answer truly: where at fault, mend it; where not, the more strive. The teacher, suiting the moment and the matter, gently instructs and opens; then each returns to his desk to study.
