问[1]孟子言「执中无权犹执一」。
先生曰：「中只有天理，只是易。随时变易，如何执得？须是因时制宜，难预先定一个规矩在。如后世儒者，要将道理一一说得无罅漏，立定个格式，此正是执一。」

先生说：「中只是天理，只是变易。随时变易，怎么执得住？必须因时制宜，难以预先定死一个规矩。像后世儒者那样，要把道理一一说得毫无破绽，立定一个格式，这正是执一。」
Someone asked about Mencius's 'holding to the mean without weighing is clinging to one extreme.'
The Master said: 'The mean is heavenly principle, and it is constant change. Changing with every moment, how could it be held fast? One must fit the measure to the time; no rule can be fixed in advance. Like later scholars trying to state every doctrine without a crack, setting up a fixed mold — that is precisely clinging to one extreme.'
