一友问：「功夫欲得此知时时接续，一切应感处反觉照管不及。若去事上周旋，又觉不见了。如何则可？」
先生曰：「此只认良知未真，尚有内外之间，我这里功夫不由人急心，认得良知头脑是当，去朴实用功，自会透彻。到此便是内外两忘，又何心事不合一？」
一位朋友问：「功夫要这良知时时接续，可一到应事感物处反而照管不及；若去事上周旋，又觉得不见了。怎么办才好？」
先生说：「这只是认良知未真，还有内外之隔。我这里功夫由不得急心。认得良知头脑妥当，去朴实用功，自会透彻。到那里便是内外两忘，又哪有心与事不合的？」
A friend asked: 'I would have innate knowledge run unbroken; yet meeting affairs I cannot attend to it, and busied with affairs it seems gone. What is best?'
The Master said: 'Innate knowledge not yet truly known — the inner and outer still parted. The work brooks no haste. Know the head of innate knowledge aright and work plainly, and it will thread through of itself. There, inner and outer are both forgot — where then should mind and affair not meet?'
