先生曰：「然。须要时时用致良知的功夫，方才活泼泼地，方才与他川水一般；若须臾间断，便与天地不相似。此是学问极至处，圣人也只如此。」
问：「『逝者如斯』，是说自家心性活泼泼的吗？」
先生说：「是的。必须时时用致良知的功夫，才活泼泼地，才与那川流的水一般；若有片刻间断，便与天地不相似了。这是学问的极至处，圣人也只是如此。」
Asked: 'What passes is like this — does it speak of one's own heart and nature, quick and alive?'
The Master said: 'It does. Only with the work of extending innate knowledge at every hour is it quick and alive, like the stream; break off a moment, and it no longer matches heaven and earth. This is learning's farthest point: even the sage is no more than this.'
